Mike Eaton Family, Ron Collins, Lafarrel Wess

Saturday, April 3rd.  The Eaton Family drove down from Troy, Missouri.  Mike, Lisa, daughter Molly (11), son Matthew (5) and Molly's friend Kayla (11).

They brought Jack, a nice 14 month old Border Collie male bred by Cliff Johnson of Amarillo Texas..  Above Ben gives Jack a try while Mike and Lisa look on.  Mike has already started him.  While Mike, who knows his bloodlines, and Ben talk dogs - Lisa and Leslie watch the "kids play with the kids!"

Below left, Leslie's current favorite "Stripe" is whispering in Kayla's (left) and Molly's (middle) ear.  They didn't give away his secrets, but Ben is certain he was asking for a one-way ride back to Troy, Missouri!  Below right, Lisa explains "milk flow" to Matt as he feeds one of the crew.

Yep, more "kid" and "kid" pictures.  Matthew made friends with "Big Goat" and the kids went frog hunting in the "cement" pond.  Angel helps Kayla "kid" sit.  The two-legged kids had already explored the pasture and pond finding tadpoles and ticks!

Ron Collins, Mammouth Springs, AR working his Gus dog Friday, April 2nd.

Ron and Lafarrel Wess, Harrisonville, AR made good time arriving mid-morning.  They brought dogs, Ron picked up Gus, and they left dogs.  Lafarrel had brought a dog up to Ben when we lived in Illinois.  A beautiful day with great company.  The fellas didn't get back on the road until late afternoon.

Above Leslie working Double - he does like to make things happen.  Lafarrel, Ben and Ron.

Below left is Lafarrel's female and right is Ron's.  They both made the first cut to stay for training.

National Geographic, the Old Santa Fe Trail, May 1st.  Ron is helping a neighbor, Hank McCaldry who is training a 6 horse hitch to pull the last running Wells Fargo Stagecoach for National Geographic.  The run will start in Dodge City, Kansas May 1st and last 3 weeks, ending in Clovis, New Mexico.  National Geographic hand-picked the 3 year old horses from and Indian Reservation in South Dakota and had them shipped to Hank.

National Geographic has been over in Mammouth Springs filming their progress.  The lead team are mules named Jim and Tobe.  Next come Morgan and Virgil and the wheel horses are Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp.  Morgan, Virgil, Doc and Wyatt had not been handled before being shipped.  They are Thoroughbred/Belgian crosses.  Along with training they were gelded after arriving in Arkansas.

Ron said that that the stagecoach along with Tuff Hedeman were making an appearance at a school in Missouri today.  The stagecoach will stop at 35 schools along the route from Kansas to New Mexico.  Hank will be driving the team.  Ron is invited to assist but hasn't cleared his schedule as yet for that time period.  The team will be auctioned off in pairs after making their destination.  Ron said a story will be published in the August or September issue of NG and will also appear on TV.
