Ed Hamersley, Bucking Billy, Slingshot

Friday, the 23rd started out a bit nippy with the wind, but by afternoon we didn't care.  Got up to 60!!

Pictured above, Ben working Ronnie Martin's Border Collie Trigger.  The Martins will be driving over from Seiling, Oklahoma tomorrow.  Pictured to the left is Ben's finished feed "rickshaw" - turns on a dime and is balanced up!  Yep, that's Keeper posing :>))

Bucking Billy is now a goat!!!!  He's going out with the others to pasture each day.

More Hectic Days

Our good buddy, Ed Hamersley of Walker, Missouri stopped in with - what else???  but dogs!  He and Ben spent a nice crisp sunny afternoon, Thursday, January 22nd working young dogs.

Leslie thought Ben was the king of duct tape, but she found out that Ed, who "winterized" his dog box with duct tape, is pretty durn clever too!

Left, Ed working one of the young Border Collies he brought over.  Below left, Ben and Ed discuss their game plan.  Notice the ear flaps - the wind was brisk and chilly!  Below right, Ben works one of the young Border Collies Ed hauled over.

Leslie's dog Slingshot was sick Wednesday night. Side of face swelled up down into brisket area and temperature shot up to above 104.0. The vet had her treat him to reduce the fever Wednesday night and after examining him Thursday morning, kept Sling for surgery to open and drain a localized abscess that went from the base of the ear down across cheek to 1 1/2 inches behind jaw and down into the throat area. It's hard to see from the photos, but Sling's incision is about 6 inches long with drain holes at top and bottom. He still has considerable swelling, but nothing like before the surgery.

What happened??? Your guess is as good as ours. Leslie thought he might have been kicked in that area on Monday. It also could have been a puncture of some sort. It happened pretty quick and, of course, after regular office hours!  But he's on the mend now.  Ed had the same type of thing happen to a dog of his last week and surgery was the treatment.  He doesn't know what or why either.  Leslie forgot to ask him if he's doing hot epsom salt packs on his dog too :>))
