Don Moss, Paul Uhlman, Harley Hancock

Head 'em up, Move 'em out.  Evening gather Thursday November 20th.  Keeper (Kelpie) and Lena (Border Collie) gather up the pasture calves and drive them about half a mile to the corrals. That's the neighbor's cows looking on from beyond the fence line.

Ben wanted to make some notes about these pictures to those of you who may not understand the difference between a drive and fetch.  Ben (pickup) is working Lena the Border Collie and Leslie is working Keeper the Kelpie.  Leslie is also taking the photographs.  So in the 2 pictures directly above, Lena is "fetching" and Keeper is "driving."

In the 2 pictures below, both dogs are driving.  The dogs drove the cattle past the pickup and into the corrals.  The only real difference between fetching and driving is handler position.  Once you have solid directions on your dog, you will be able to do either whenever necessary.

The cattle are up and we head for the house as the sun sets.

Ed and Ben went to visit Don Moss, Gentryville, Missouri

Ed (Hamersley of Walker, Missouri) and Ben met in Joplin Wednesday morning to head over past Springfield to visit Don Moss.  Seems Ed tracked down some Border Collie blood he and Ben are interested in.  They brought home a dog named Sue.

It turned out to be old home week with Paul Uhlman and Harley Hancock showing up.  Don worked several dogs for them before they decided on Sue.

Pictured above  (l - r) is Paul Uhlman, Don Moss, Harley Hancock and Ed Hamersley.  Below Don working "Sue" and right Don works another dog.
