Father's Day Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping at Pawhuska, OK. Ben talking to his favorite steer roper and all-round cowboy, Guy Allen, Santa Anna, TX.

Clem McSpadden (Nov. 9, 1925 - July 7, 2008) is one of the greats in our corner of the world.  Ben and I feel very blessed to have been at one of the last events he announced - the Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping.  Rancher, cowboy, calf roper, statesman, rodeo announcer, a hero, the list goes on.  Thank you, Mr. McSpadden.  Read more about him

June 2008 - Wow, can't believe it's already July.  Wondering where June went. So many of you came by, dropped off dogs, picked up dogs, tried out dogs. You are appreciated.  June is one of Ben's favorite months - the Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping in Pawhuska, OK on Dad's day.  We pack up with food, water, sunscreen and stadium seats and head that way bright and early. The other big highlight of the month was a quick trip to central Illinois to celebrate Leslie's Uncle John Collins' 85th birthday.  He planned it himself so there'd be no surprises. Greg Miller, Corsicana, TX drove up to look at Miss Patch and took her home. Neighbors Allen Sanders and Steve Bruner and Ben all went to the big sheep sale at Sedalia, MO. Folks there's more below. Happy Independence Day - every day.  Thank you to all our fighting men and women and our veterans.

Left Miss Patch goes home with Greg Miller, Corsicana, TX. Above Perch puppy-sitting one of the pups Ben got from Ed Hamersley, Walker, MO.  Their ears are starting to come up now.

Above Leslie visit with her Aunt Betty and Cousin Jean Anne. The mighty Mississippi had not crested yet - we saw lots of road closings due to flooding.

Libby Fouts, Kansas, came down with her young female.

Ben, neighbors Allen Sanders and Steve Bruner went to the big Midwest Stud Ram Sale at Sedalia, MO the last of June.  Ben did bring home a new Katahdin ram.

It's summer - grass is getting tall.  Keeper looking for the sheep.  Keeper finds the sheep.

Above Ben in his new "sheep herder" pants.  He picked up some chinos at a garage sale to use like coveralls.  Below Tiger and Baldy in for the 6:00 o'clock news.

Above Glenn Guttridge's Ben dog turns 'em around.  Below, Owen Lyon, Gainesville, TX dropped Ben off when he came to pick up his Boots dog bred by Glenn.  Thanks Owen for hauling pups down to Gainesville for Len Dalton to pick up.  That's the best part of cow dog folks - helping each other out.

Above, Derrick Neal, neighbor, stops by with a dog for Ben to try.  Below a big storm blowing in and another showing the "sheets" of rain. We've actually had 2 - 3 days with no rain !
