"So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." ~ Romans 12:5

Ben Means has raised and trained dogs all his life.  English Setters and Pointers and Coonhounds as a kid, teenager and young adult.  He was sought after as a trainer and breeder even then.

Ben has successfully trained working cattle dogs for most of 45 years.  In the early 1960's he developed a strong line of cattle working Border Collies.  The Working Australian Kelpie, having garnered his attention in the late 1980's, was his primary focus in the 1990's.  Though Ben appreciates a good working stockdog regardless of breed, the 2000's have brought him back to some of the cattle-working Border Collie lines.

A cattleman of many years, Ben has offered his expertise to others through his book The Perfect Stock Dog, training videos and clinics.

The Whistle

He trains outside dogs on a selective basis.  Semi-retirement from fulltime ranching allows Ben to offer individual tutoring and stock dog training programs to those seeking to have a good useable stock dog.

"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others." ~ 1 Peter 4:10

"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." ~ Colossians 4:5

Leslie's initial training experience came from formal obedience training and competition from 1970 into the mid 1990's.  During this time she tailored the formal training methods for the individual pet owner.  Her classes were innovative, introducing the pet owner to "formal" obedience and its many fun outlets such as the park playground equipment (before "agility").  She taught training classes to the public for over 20 years.

Her interest in working stock dogs came about from her own needs in caring for a small flock of registered Dorsets in the late 1980's.  Her first Working Australian Kelpies came in 1988.  As a result of her dedication and commitment to this breed, she started the North American Australian Kelpie Registry, Inc. in 1991.  In 2003, the Working Cow Dog Registry was finalized, offering a service to those breeding cattle-working dogs.

Leslie has a background in newspaper advertising and freelances occasionally.  She offers web development services for Kelpie Registry service subscribers, Cow Dog Central breeders and the Working Cow Dog Registry breeders. For information on web design - click here.
